Our organization, with the financial assistance of different international organizations, realized the following projects:
In 1998-99 the association, with active support of Georgian Ministry of Education, successfully realized the project: “Correctional Pedagogic and children with disabilities”. This project won the “competition of social programs of government and non-government structures”, an initiative supported through the “Horizon” fund. The implementation of this program had a big impact - it enabled children with disabilities to get used to educational processes, to develop habits of working with teachers, they overcame their shyness and managed to display their abilities at the medical-pedagogical commission. 18 children were distributed among the corresponding educational institutions according to their illness.
In 1999-2000 the organization fulfilled the program: “Correctional Pedagogic, children with disabilities and Integration” that was also supported through the “Horizon” fund. With this program, correctional-diagnostic groups were created in schools of Vake, Mtatsminda, Chughureti, and Didube regions. 40 children registered in the association took part in group studies. This project helped children with disabilities to start going to school, and to be socially integrated among other children in the initial stage.
In 1997 we published the booklet “child studies to speak”. It presents warning signs of how parents can identify hearing and speaking disorders in infants and kids. These booklets were distributed free of charge in maternity homes.
In 1998 we organized a cognitive-sight club for children with hearing impairments. As no TV channel in Georgia shows films or informational programs in dactyl language, we bought colored TVs, video players, and invited interpreters from the same school, who gave the children all the necessary information while the film went on, in a language that they could understand.
In 1999, under an agreement with the Georgian Patriarchate, with the blessing of Georgian Catholic-Patriarch Ilia II, we recorded the audio tape “Georgian Lullaby” , which contains Georgian folk tales, prayers and lullabies. The tapes were given to children with disabilities as presents.
In the year 2000, the organization "Open Society-Georgia Foundation" implemented a project called "Let's Be Together" with the support of the integrated bank foundation. The project aimed to provide assistance to children and socially vulnerable children in their reintegration process. They were given the opportunity to participate in various activities, establish relationships, organize events, participate in sports activities, and create a beautiful aesthetic space.
In 2002, with the financial support of the international organization “Mercy Corps”, the organization fulfilled the project ”Tanadgoma” which meant to install natural gas pipes, ensuring the heating system, improving the living studying and working conditions of the inhabitants of the boarding-house N2 in Gldani district. A gas-heating system was installed in the building, as well as water boilers, gas ovens, electric neon lamps; the heating problem of the classrooms, bedrooms and bathroom was also regulated. The matter of feeding block was settled. Besides this, the project included the supporting industry, a school ceramic shop, that helped to solve the clay therapy problem in children with disabilities. The pupils of the boarding school were given school items as a present. The representatives of this subject took active part in the fulfillment of the project along with the members of the association.
As for the social integration program of the children with disabilities, it was carried out by some non-governmental organizations with financial support from the Ministry of labor, health and social protection. Some sample schools were chosen: our association chose school N24. Our project’s purpose was to integrate children with limited possibilities in society, their psychological-social rehabilitation, to include them in the general educational process and to introduce in truth an integral education process.
Within the project our association could adopt the model school’s interior and exterior to ensure the free transportation of the children with disabilities (special supports in lavatories, the resting room with supporting visuals and etc…). We organized working meetings with the school pedagogic collective and parents, where we discussed the integral educational issues, there were also selected cadres working with children for inclusive studying. With the support of “Invalid League” we provided the children with disabilities with special transport.
The implementation of this project had a huge response, which helped to include the children with disabilities in ordinary schools and educational processes.
In 2003, again with the financial support of the international organization ”Mercy Corps” the organization fulfilled the project “We listen together”, which had the aim of improving life conditions and creating training groups in Republic Kindergarten for children with hearing and speaking disabilities, and to involve them into common study processes. There are 130 children from different Georgian regions in this Kindergarten. There are deaf children as well as children with hearing deficiencies. Nowadays deaf people are in thorough isolation and are subject to an inferiority complex. Deaf people can integrate into society with the help of their timely involvement, long exercises, visual material and movements of the lips. With this purpose we formed the preparation group where special teachers work with each child with an individual program. During the working process the specialists were using special equipment, hearing equipment, visual material. All this helped to involve several children with hearing defects into educational processes.
In 2003, with the financial support of the fund “Open Society Georgia”, the organization made the project “Ray” which meant to arrange the summer camp at the seaside resort Tsikhisdziri in Kobulety region for the children with low mental capacities. In this summer camp 22 children from N2 boarding school rested for 19 days. The children were able to display their intellectual and working abilities. Different activities within the project were held. With the help of the teachers, the children were studying embroidering, sewing, etc. There was also an excursion, the children visited Gonio castle and the sightseeings in Batumi.
In 2004 with the financial support of the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Protection, the organization carried out the project ”Social integration of children with limited possibilities,” which foresaw the encouragement of inclusive education, integration of children with disabilities in schools, their involvement in educational processes and in active studying as the integral part of school development. In order to carry out the project two model schools were chosen, N24 secondary school in Didube-Chughureti region and the German school in Telavi. Pilot school buildings were adopted, resource-rooms were equipped, working meetings were held on the issues of inclusive teaching, the cadres working with disabled children were chosen. “
