Radio "Imedi" program - "We are here"
The founder and director of the Association "Ika-21", an expert in issues of persons with disabilities, a human rights defender of persons with disabilities, and co-chair of the Council on Issues of Persons with Disabilities of Tbilisi City Hall, Maia Asakashvili, was a guest on Radio "Imedi" in the radio program "We Are Here" together with Nino Meunargia. Ms. Maia spoke about the purpose of the Irakli Kemoklidze 18+ Day Center, which aims to promote the acquisition of skills by persons with disabilities that are necessary for their independent functioning. A psychologist works with young people with disabilities at the day center, conducts both group and individual therapies on various psychological topics, and provides relevant recommendations to young people with disabilities.
The day center operates two workshops, an applied arts workshop, where young people with disabilities learn to create handmade souvenirs using various technologies, and the "Ray" - Irakli Wood Workshop, where young people with disabilities learn to create environmentally friendly wooden toys and souvenirs, xylography, and wood engraving. Ms. Maya spoke about international experience in the field of people with disabilities, the development of new services and a volunteer program, the introduction and development of a volunteer culture. Within the framework of the "ICA-21" volunteer program, volunteers from Italy are present, who support young people with disabilities in various therapy processes, conduct sports and recreational exercises, help us manage social media and the web, and plan events. We would like to take this opportunity and, through your program, thank our Italian volunteers on behalf of the entire team for their active involvement and support.
