In the wood workshop "Skhivi", people with disabilities learn to make wooden toys, souvenirs and engraving (xylography).
Gela Chiviashvili, Head of the Tbilisi City Hall's Healthcare and Social Services City Service, got acquainted with the process of teaching and working with people with disabilities in the wood workshop located on the basis of the "Ika 21" association.
Within the framework of the Tbilisi City Hall project, people with intellectual disabilities and mental problems learn wood carving, drawing and engraving (xylography), and then make environmentally friendly toys and souvenirs. Currently, the workshop is preparing for the New Year and works are underway to make wooden New Year's souvenirs.
Currently, the woodworking enterprise employs 20 people with disabilities.
The mission of the woodworking enterprise is to work on the development of knowledge and competencies of young people with disabilities that will ensure their labor efficiency, competitiveness, and access to the labor market and employment through support.
The social goal is to promote independent living of people with intellectual disabilities and psychosocial needs through vocational training, employment, and strengthening their families.

Since one of the founders of the enterprise and an active disabled member, Irakli Kemoklidze, passed away, the enterprise was named in his memory - "Shkivi" - Irakli's Wood Workshop.
"Shkivi" produces ecologically clean souvenirs and educational toys. Educational toys for reading, mathematics, thinking, Montessori. They can be used both for educational, rehabilitation and medical purposes in ongoing sessions (among children and adolescents with disabilities and typical development), they are intended for coordination of hand and finger movements, development and refinement of motor skills, formation of grasping and visual motor function, improvement of abstract thinking and volumetric imagination. The surface of the products is covered with environmentally friendly paint, which is safe for the child's health.
